Oh Islam is an Egyptian historical epic set in the fourteenth century, dramatizing one of the most pivotal moments in Islamic history — the Mongol-Tartar invasion of the Arab world. The story follows Salama, who sells Prince Mahmoud and Princess Jihad into servitude in Egypt to save their lives, setting them on paths toward palace intrigue and military glory. Jihad enters the court of Queen Shajarat al-Durr while Mahmoud rises to lead the Mamluk forces alongside the legendary Baybars. Against a backdrop of political conspiracy and royal treachery, the film builds toward a grand battle in which Mahmoud and Baybars deliver a historic defeat to the Tartar invaders.
Oh Islam is a 1961 Egyptian drama film directed by Enrico Bomba and Andrew Marton. The film was selected as the Egyptian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 34th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee. The film was the first Egyptian film to be screened at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
