Overview

Prayer of the Oppressed is an Egyptian social drama that traces the cascading consequences of buried secrets and misplaced loyalties. Manar marries into wealth while still emotionally tied to Medhat, who continues sending her letters — addressed in the name of Nabila, the wife of Manar's brother Sharaf. When Sharaf intercepts one of the letters, he divorces Nabila in a rage and begins to doubt his own paternity of their daughter Mervat. In a cruel act of rejection, he hands Mervat over to a woman who runs an underground pickpocket operation. The series is a sobering portrait of how one act of deception ripples outward, destroying the lives of those who had no part in the original wrong.
