When a new officer arrives in the village with his wife and young son, assigned to bring The Beast to justice, the stage is set for a fierce confrontation between state authority and an outlaw who has never faced real consequences. It was one of the first films to be labelled as a "social documentary thriller" by cinema writer Georges Sadoul for its use of documentary style, depictions of police abuse, and backdrop of life in the Egyptian countryside.
