The Student is a classic Egyptian social drama starring Shadia as Nemat, the daughter of Khadija (Amina Rizk), a maidservant who sacrifices everything to give her child a better life. The compassionate school principal (Nelly Mazloum) takes them in, and Nemat grows up alongside the principal's daughter Mona (Amal Farid). She falls for the wealthy Hassan (Hassan Youssef), but his family's class prejudice stands firmly in the way. Torn between love, shame over her mother's humble work, and the struggle to prove herself, Nemat runs away and must face a world full of hardship and harassment alone.
