Overview

Alkhataya is an Egyptian family drama that builds slowly and deliberately toward an explosive revelation. Ihsan and her lawyer husband Mahmoud have two sons — Hussein and Ahmad — but Mahmoud's inexplicably unequal treatment of them has long been a source of quiet tension. When Hussein falls in love with his colleague Suhair, Mahmoud's inexplicable refusal to allow the marriage — insisting she wed Ahmad instead — deepens the mystery. The truth, when it finally emerges, reshapes everything the audience thought they understood about this family. The film is a compelling character study about secrets kept to protect the powerful, and the damage they cause when they finally come to light.
