Diary of a Country Prosecutor, is a 1969 Egyptian movie, directed by Tawfiq Saleh, and starring Ahmad Abd al-Haleem, Rawya Ashour, Tawfiq Al-Deqen. with a runtime of 110 minutes.
Diary of a Country Prosecutor is an Egyptian drama adapted from the classic 1937 novel by Tawfiq al-Hakim, one of the foundational texts of modern Arabic literature. When farmer Qamar al-Dawla is shot and dies whispering the name of Reem, his wife's sister, the local public prosecutor finds himself drawn to the witness as much as to the case. The district commissioner is similarly captivated by Reem's beauty. She disappears in the night — allegedly with unseen help — and the village officials, distracted by the coming elections, let the pursuit fall by the wayside. A sharp and affectionate satire of bureaucratic inertia, rural justice, and the way human vanity can derail even the most straightforward investigation, the film remains a faithful tribute to al-Hakim's mordant social vision.
