Overview
Ya Rab Tawba is an Egyptian social drama that opens with the Basha's fury upon discovering that his son Zaki has impregnated his cousin Hosnia. Determined to bury the scandal, the patriarch uses his authority to arrange a hasty marriage between Hosnia and Ibrahim, one of the peasants working on his land. Ibrahim initially welcomes the match, unaware of its circumstances. But when Hosnia delivers a baby just six months into the marriage, the truth begins to surface, placing Ibrahim in an agonizing moral position. The film is a sober examination of how patriarchal power shapes — and sometimes destroys — the lives of those with the least agency.
