A Bit of Torment is an Egyptian drama film that opens in the aftermath of a desperate act of self-defense: when Amal kills her abusive stepfather to protect herself, she is forced to flee. She takes refuge in the coastal haven of Sidi Abdel Rahman, finding shelter in the home of painter Ahmed Khaled, who gradually falls for her. But his protégé, the sculptor Sherif, is equally captivated, and a rivalry develops between teacher and student for Amal's heart. Set against a backdrop of sea, art, and simmering emotion, the film is a psychological melodrama that explores trauma, guilt, desire, and the redemptive — or further damaging — power of love.
