Graveyards for Rent, is a 1986 Egyptian movie, directed by Ali Abdel-Khalek, and starring Mahmoud Yassin, Naglaa Fathy, Hassan Al-Imam. with a runtime of 120 minutes.
Graveyards for Rent is an Egyptian social comedy following Ahmed, an engineer whose family is left homeless after their home is demolished. Forced into a cheap hotel with his wife Nabila, their son, and her sister, the family quickly finds that even modest accommodation is beyond their financial means. In a move of desperate ingenuity, they decide to set up home in the courtyard of a local cemetery — trading the hotel for an unusual and unsettling new neighborhood. What follows is a string of comic and awkward situations as the family navigates life among the graves, dealing with curious locals, suspicious neighbors, and the absurdities of their predicament. The film uses dark comedy to comment sharply on urban housing pressures and economic hardship.
