Overview
Sunset and Sunrise is an Egyptian drama set in the tumultuous aftermath of the Cairo Fire, a defining moment in mid-twentieth-century Egypt. Essam is consumed by guilt after betraying his close friend Samir by sleeping with Samir's wife, Madiha. Rather than seek reconciliation, guilt curdles into resentment — and Essam turns his anger on Madiha's father, the man who pressured him into marrying her to contain the scandal. A brooding portrait of moral compromise and its consequences, the film uses its charged historical setting to explore themes of betrayal, social coercion, and the corrosive desire for revenge.
