The Hunger is an Egyptian drama series set within the rich storytelling universe of Naguib Mahfouz's Harafish epic. An oppressive local strongman rules the alley with an iron fist, and when his own brother dares to feed the poor without permission, he is unjustly imprisoned. While the brother languishes behind bars, his wife quietly organizes the downtrodden residents into a revolutionary movement aimed at dismantling the corrupt order that has long terrorized their community. Drawing on Mahfouz's enduring themes of social justice, power, and defiance, the series poses the central question of whether the people's uprising can finally break the cycle of tyranny and restore dignity to the alley.
