Egyptian actor. He was born in Alexandria on January 13, 1939, and was satisfied with his high school diploma to devote himself to acting. He loved acting since he was young, and he participated in the theatrical troupe of the amateur theater in his middle school. The Arabic language teacher nominated him to take an exam to select actors to work on Alexandria Radio. Indeed, Ali Hassanein passed the test, and he was offered a radio series entitled (The Director’s Daughter) on the same day. He continued to work on Alexandria Radio until he moved to Cairo in 1961 when Egyptian Television was established, after he convinced his family that he had received an offer to work on Egyptian Television and showed them a paper that he had forged himself! His artistic career spanned a long period of more than half a century, during which he acted in cinema, theater and television. In theater, his most prominent performances are “Romeo and Juliet” and “The King is the King.” On television, he played a number of roles in the series (Ibn Taymiyyah), (The Court of the Martyrs), (Adam’s Sons), and (Imam Muhammad Abduh). Ali Hassanein considered that among his most important roles were the characters of Fouda Abu Hatab, the neighborhood thug, in the series (Souq Al-Asr) in 2001. He also promised that his closest works to his heart were his roles in the series (Citizen 2009. In cinema, he participated in a number of well-known roles. He played a role that sparked controversy as Shawkat Halabi, the gay director, in the movie (A Sprinkle of Daring) in 2001. He participated in a number of well-known works, including (Ice Cream in Gleem), (Code Paper), (A Lost Substitution), (Chick), (Cholesterol-Free), but his most famous cinematic role remains his role as (Zaryab), the skilled and unknown musician in the movie (Ice Cream in Gleem), starring (Amr Diab) and (Ashraf Abdel Baqi) - with whom he participated repeatedly in later works - and directed by (Khairy Bishara). He also participated in the voice performance in many Arabic-dubbed Disney films with his voice since the beginning of its entry into the Arab region, where he provided the Arabic voice performance for the role of the villain (John Ratcliffe) in the movie (Pocahontas), (Archidion) in the movie (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), (Zeus) in the movie (Hercules), and (Full Tank) in the movie (Cars). Ali Hassanein married twice, the first to a girl he loved in Alexandria. They moved to live together in Cairo after their marriage, without their family’s knowledge at first. They separated one year later due to their young age and the difficulty of life, after they had given birth to a daughter. Shortly after suffering from liver cancer, he died in 2015 after participating in three works in the same year, the last of which was the series (The Tramp), at the age of seventy-six.
