The King Is the King, is a 2006 Egyptian play, directed by Mourad Mounir and Gamal Abdel Hamid, and starring Salah El-Saadany, Mohamed Mounir. Fayza Kamal.
The King Is the King is an Arabic stage comedy that playfully interrogates the nature of power and identity. Bored by the ceremony of rule, a king disguises himself alongside his minister to seek amusement among ordinary people, encountering a bankrupt merchant who fantasises about being king. On a whim, the king dresses the merchant in royal robes for a day — only for everyone, including the queen and palace guards, to accept the imposter as the true monarch. When the merchant stumbles upon a genuine plot against the throne, the king's joke becomes a dangerous game in which he himself becomes the pawn. A witty theatrical classic that blends farce with political commentary.
