Overview

Laughter, Joy, Work and Love is an Egyptian drama film set in the Heliopolis neighborhood during 1968. A group of carefree school students find their outlook on life transformed after befriending Adham, a young boxer with dreams beyond his station. When Adham falls in love with Aisha, a woman whose background places her on the margins of respectable society, his wealthy father moves to keep them apart. The film tenderly captures the spirit of late-1960s Cairo — its idealism, its class tensions, and the youthful conviction that love should transcend social boundaries.
