Zanuba is a classic Egyptian drama film set against the backdrop of the Palestine War. Atiya Abu Hadid is a thug and gang leader who harbors feelings for Naana'a, a neighborhood girl engaged to her cousin Al-Atra, a soldier who has gone off to fight in Palestine. With his rival away, Atiya schemes to clear his path to Naana'a by manipulating her brother Hassan — known as Al-Osta — into falling for Zenouba, a young woman Atiya exploits as a pawn in his criminal machinations. The film offers a vivid portrait of Egyptian working-class life and its moral conflicts during one of the most consequential moments in modern Arab history.
