A Meeting with the Past is an Egyptian thriller drama built on the enduring consequences of a single act of betrayal. Mahmoud is arrested while smuggling counterfeit money, left to face justice alone after his accomplice Hussein escapes. Years later, Hussein has rebuilt his life in the respectable household of Sahar's father, desperate to leave the past behind. But when Mahmoud walks free from prison, he reappears in Hussein's carefully constructed life, threatening to bring everything crashing down. The film is a taut and compelling examination of guilt, loyalty, and the impossibility of outrunning one's own history, driven by the question of whether the past can ever truly be buried.
