The Puppeteer, is a 1989 Egyptian movie, directed by Hany Lasheen, and starring Omar Sharif, Mervat Amin, Hesham Selim. with a runtime of 115 minutes.
The Puppeteer is an Egyptian drama that celebrates and mourns a vanishing folk art tradition. Muhammad Jad al-Karim is the village puppeteer who devoted himself to educating his son Bahloul, only to find that the young graduate has no interest in inheriting his craft. Bahloul's ambitions bring him into conflict with a local businessman whose plans for a large tourism development threaten the very land where the puppeteer has always performed. A layered film about generational change, the erasure of cultural heritage, and whether progress can coexist with the traditions it displaces.
