Futuwwat Bulaq (The Bullies of Boulak) is an Egyptian historical drama immersed in the world of the old Bulaq neighborhood, where local strongmen known as "fatwa" rule through fear and loyalty. Mahrous joins the ranks of Abbas, the reigning fatwa of Bulaq, who is sworn to avenge his old mentor Memon against rival Atwa, whose attack left Memon's hand permanently crippled. When Abbas orders Mahrous to kill his own fiancée, Hamida, a jewelry vendor, to purge himself of love and sentiment, Mahrous refuses and vanishes from the neighborhood. Only his trusted friend Bayoumi knows his whereabouts and watches over Hamida in his absence. A vivid portrait of honor, love, and dangerous allegiances in old Cairo.
