Raafat Al Haggan is a gripping Egyptian espionage drama based on the true story of Refaat Ali Suleiman Al Gamal, an Egyptian citizen dispatched to Israel in June 1956 on a mission of extraordinary danger under the codename Raafat Al Haggan. Over the course of 17 years, he built a flourishing business empire in Tel Aviv, embedded himself in influential Israeli social circles, and covertly funnelled vital intelligence back to Egyptian military intelligence under the cover of a tourism company. The series brings to life one of the Arab world's most celebrated espionage legends, chronicling the double life, the sacrifices, and the impossible balancing act of a man regarded as a national hero in Egypt.
Refaat Ali Suleiman al-Gammal, better known for his code name "Raafat al-Haggan", was an Egyptian intelligence officer regarded as one of the most prominent agents of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate (EGID). He was operating under the alias "Jacques Bitton", and he lived in Israel for 17 years and embedded himself in local society. Egyptian intelligence selected the surname "Bitton" because it is common among Jews of Moroccan and other North African origins, which strengthened the plausibility of his cover.
