Awlad Al-Fuqara is an Egyptian social drama that traces the downfall of Hosnia, a woman abandoned and dishonored after being assaulted by her cousin Zaki. Compelled by circumstances, his father Fouad Pasha — who had earlier refused to help his own bankrupt brother — arranges Hosnia's marriage to the farmer Ibrahim. When Hosnia gives birth, Ibrahim doubts the child's parentage and abandons her. Years of hardship force Hosnia to earn a living as a dancer in a nightclub, while her daughter, ill with tuberculosis, survives as a singer. The film is a stark Egyptian melodrama exposing class injustice, social hypocrisy, and the devastating toll these forces take on women with no voice and no recourse.
