People Downstairs, is a 1960 Egyptian movie, directed by Kamel El Telmessani, and starring Youssef Wahby, Mary Moneib, Salwa saeed. with a runtime of 110 minutes.
People Downstairs is an Egyptian social drama set in an old residential building in the Abbassiya district of Cairo, divided between a basement housing the poor and dreamers, and upper floors where the wealthy reside. Despite living mere floors apart, these two worlds rarely meet — except through love. The film weaves together three parallel romances: an elderly widow and her feelings for a once-rich man now living in the basement; a young artist who loves his neighbor's daughter but cannot afford to marry her; and an ice-cream vendor smitten with the building owner's maid. A warm and bittersweet portrait of Cairo's class divisions, People Downstairs asks whether love can bridge the distance between those at the top and those below.
