Osman and Ali is a beloved Egyptian comedy classic starring Ali El-Kassar as Osman Abd El-Baset, a telephone operator whose lovesick distraction over the maid Yasmina (Bahiga El-Mahdi) costs him his job. Searching for new employment, Osman stumbles into a case of mistaken identity: every employee at his new workplace takes him for Ali Bey, the company's actual owner, due to their uncanny resemblance. Rather than correct the confusion, Osman exploits it to comic and advantageous effect. The film is a classic example of mid-century Egyptian film comedy, combining slapstick, romance, and social satire in a formula that helped make Ali El-Kassar one of the defining comic stars of his era.
