أمل ضائع, is a 1947 Egyptian movie, directed by Farid El Gendy, and starring Zouzou Mady, Galal Harb. Hussein Reyaad.
أمل ضائع (Lost Hope) is a classic Egyptian romantic drama woven around love thwarted by tradition. A young woman falls for a naval officer who wishes to marry her, but social customs forbid the younger sister from wedding before the elder. When the officer is suddenly called away on an emergency voyage, the girl flees her circumstances and gives birth alone. She is taken in by a kind man who enrols her as a piano teacher and eventually makes her his wife. The drama reaches its peak at sea, when her husband's ship sinks — and it is her former lover who saves him, setting the stage for a deeply ironic confrontation between duty, love, and fate.
