
Hussein Helmy Al-Muhandis was born in Cairo in 1920 and entered the world of cinema by chance as a graduate of the Faculty of Engineering in 1943. The first film he produced, “Flowers and Thorns,” incurred a loss of 24 thousand pounds. The late director was known for discovering some new cinematic faces, such as Shadia, Hend Rostom, and Zubaida Tharwat. As for his contributions, they were distributed among feature films, documentaries, screenwriting, and dialogue. One of the documentary films is “The Empty Seat,” which was presented to the Council of Governments of the World Food Program in the late sixties. In 1995, he directed, commissioned by the Media Center for Education and Communication, a 10-minute dramatic documentary film entitled “This Time Will Sing for Tomorrow.” In the field of scripts, he wrote “Baba Amin”, the first film by Youssef Chahine, in 1950, “Seek My Heart”, directed by Ezz El-Din Zulfikar in 1952, “Devil of the Desert” by Youssef Chahine in 1954, “The Black Reader” by Niazi Mustafa, and “The Village of Lovers” by Ahmed Diaa El-Din. In 1955, “Let Me Live,” in 1956, “The Stranger” by Kamal Al-Sheikh, and in 1957, “A Ghanaian Life” by Hossam El-Din Mustafa, “Women in My Life” by Abdel Wahab, “Night Lovers” by Kamal Attia, “Khaled Bin Al-Walid” by Hussein Sidqi, “The Little Angel” by Kamal Al-Sheikh, and “Girl 17” by Kamal Al-Sheikh. He presented a group of films as a director, including “The Sun That Never Sets” in (1959), “Me and My Daughters” (1961), “The Claw of Love,” “The Storm of Love,” “This Man I Love,” “Boys and Girls” (1965), “The Deposit” and “Eve on the Road” (1968), “The Lights” in 1972, “Zero Hour,” “Night Whispers” (1977), and “The Sun Will Not Shine.” (1979).
