The Landlord is an Arabic drama-comedy set in the 1980s that centers on a cunning act of mass deception. A charismatic property owner convinces the residents of a neighborhood to contribute their labor to a construction project with the promise that each family will receive a free apartment upon completion. The community rallies together in collective effort, pouring trust and hard work into the endeavor — only for the building's completion to reveal the man as a skilled fraudster with no intention of honoring his word. The film uses this premise to explore themes of greed, gullibility, social trust, and the cost of blind faith in authority figures.
