Overview
"Qaffas al-Harim" is an Egyptian social drama set in Upper Egypt that confronts the patriarchal treatment of women within a traditional household. Hafez Abdel Gawad is a domineering village mayor living with his two wives, Umm Saad and Umm Reem. When Umm Reem suffers a devastating accident that costs her a leg, her dying wish is that her daughter Reem be allowed to complete her university education. Reem moves in with her grandmother and begins a quiet but determined journey toward independence — breaking free from a social world in which women are seen as possessions rather than individuals. A drama about inheritance, freedom, and the courage to live on one's own terms.
