Gulfdan Hanem is an Arabic comedy that wryly examines the lengths a doting grandmother will go to fulfill her ambitions for a beloved grandchild. Gulfdan is consumed by the desire to see her grandson become a celebrated novelist, but talent proves an obstacle she cannot charm away. Her solution is to negotiate in secret with a struggling writer from within the family, buying one of his novels to publish under her grandson's name. What begins as a private scheme quickly unravels into a comedic social satire about family pride, creative exploitation, and the uncomfortable gap between the image we construct and the truth beneath it.
