The Woman Who Defeated the Devil is an Egyptian fantasy-drama with a darkly comic edge. Shafiqa, a plain-looking maidservant treated with cruelty by those around her, nurses a secret love for journalist Mahmoud who is blind to her affections. Desperate and invisible, she strikes a Faustian deal with Adham — grandson of the devil himself — trading her soul for wealth, beauty, and ten years of triumph. Reborn as an alluring millionairess, she returns to settle scores with everyone who ever wronged her. But as the decade draws to a close, the devil comes to collect.
