Overview

The Runaways is an Egyptian drama film that follows two young women from Alexandria who leave their city in pursuit of fame and a foothold in the Cairo arts scene. Convinced that their beauty alone is their ticket to stardom, the pair quickly discover that the capital operates by different rules — talent, not looks, is what opens doors in the entertainment world. Battered by financial hardship and a harsh reality check, the two friends reach a crossroads: one chooses to return home to Alexandria and the life she left behind, while the other stays in Cairo and reinvents herself as a belly dancer. The film is a candid and empathetic portrait of ambition, disillusionment, and the diverging paths women navigate in search of a life on their own terms.
