The Wedge is an Egyptian social drama series starring Huda Sultan, Youssef Shaaban, and Fadia Abdel-Ghani, centered on Fatima Ta'alba, a strong-willed Upper Egyptian mother whose sole ambition is to keep her family united and expand their landholdings. Controlling her children's lives down to their choice of wives, Fatima runs the household with an iron hand while her eldest son Hajj Darwish tries to maintain peace. The series is a richly textured portrait of a traditional Egyptian family where a mother's authority collides with her children's desire for independence.
