Overview
El Barashot is an Egyptian comedy-adventure film following Zaki Al-Banas, a struggling working-class man unable to find stable employment to support his family. His fortunes seem to change when a film crew arrives in his neighbourhood and he falls in with them, eventually securing a rare opportunity to travel abroad. What appears to be a legitimate venture quickly reveals itself to be a currency-smuggling operation — and before Zaki can process the revelation, the situation escalates dramatically when the aircraft is hijacked. Suddenly forced to step up and confront the hijackers, the unlikely everyman discovers reserves of courage he never knew he had. A lively blend of slapstick comedy and action that celebrates the ordinary hero.
