Overview
El Awantageya is an Egyptian comedy film built around Aida, a controlling mother who refuses to accept her son Hisham's chosen bride Zouba on account of supposed social incompatibility. Resorting to increasingly absurd schemes, Aida feigns madness to break the couple apart and steer Hisham toward her niece Thana, who studies in Paris. She then enlists the help of a charlatan named Gengel and his partner Basima to cast a spell that will separate the lovers. But the two swindlers find themselves unexpectedly sympathetic to the young couple, setting the stage for a series of comic twists in this lighthearted social satire.
