Rooster Among Hens is an Egyptian comedy-drama set in the historic Al-Jamaliya quarter of Cairo. Al-Dakhakhani, a landlord who owns a quarter of the neighborhood, is consumed by fear that his estate will pass to his four daughters' husbands rather than staying in the family. His only son suffers from a developmental condition, leaving Al-Dakhakhani to scheme an unlikely solution: marrying his son to Eashrya, a woman whose property he wrongfully seized years earlier. Eashrya agrees — but only on the condition that every last possession stolen from her is returned. The film is a rich portrait of greed, cunning, and old-quarter Cairo life.
