Rise to the Abyss is an Egyptian espionage drama based on real events, directed by the acclaimed Kamal El Sheikh. It follows Abla, an Egyptian student whose visit to Paris becomes a turning point when she is recruited by the Mossad under the cover of journalism. By the time she realizes the true nature of her handlers, she has already implicated her fiancé — an engineer in the Egyptian army — in her covert activities. Egyptian intelligence officer Khaled is assigned to pursue and arrest her, setting off a tense and morally charged confrontation. Madiha Kamel delivers one of her finest performances in a film that examines patriotism, manipulation, and the devastating consequences of a single fateful decision.
