Fortune is a Promise is an Egyptian comedy film built on mistaken identity and comic misadventure. A young man drowning in debt and hounded by creditors decides to assume the identity of an actor who supposedly drowned in the Nile, hoping to make his pursuers believe he is dead. The ruse backfires spectacularly when a bank agent comes looking for that same actor to deliver a large prize he has won — and the actor's heirs emerge to claim the windfall for themselves. Caught between creditors, con artists, and scheming relatives, the impersonator must find a way to clear his debts and reveal the truth before the situation spins completely out of control.
