The Girls and the Unknown is an Arabic social drama revolving around Abdul Sattar, a father so overcome with grief that he becomes paralyzed after his desperate financial circumstances force him to marry off his daughter Samiha to a wealthy Arab man against his wishes. His second daughter, Laila, subsequently marries the affluent Qais, and it is only through this new chapter that the father begins to recover. The film sensitively examines the crushing weight poverty places on family bonds and the irreversible decisions parents must make when economic hardship strips them of choice.
