Al-Mughtasibun (The Rapists) is a hard-hitting Egyptian social drama starring Layla Elwi as Safaa, a young woman abducted by a gang of unemployed drug addicts while walking home with her fiancé Mokhtar, played by Ahmed Mokhtar. Taken to an abandoned location and gang-raped, Safaa's fiancé is powerless to intervene at gunpoint. After he brings her home safely, her father, played by Hassan Hosni, files an official police report, triggering an investigation that leads to the arrest of all perpetrators. Their public trial sparks widespread outrage, ultimately resulting in death sentences for two of the attackers and prison terms for the rest. A sobering film and a strong indictment of gender-based violence.
