
Farid Fahd Farhan Ismail Al-Atrash, known artistically as Farid Al-Atrash, was born in the Jabal Al-Arab region in Syria in 1910. He is one of the leaders of Jabal Al-Duz in Syria, and his mother is the princess and singer (Alia Hussein Al-Mundhir). After the death of his father in 1925, Farid was forced to travel repeatedly, along with his mother, his brother Fouad, and his sister Asmahan, from Syria to Cairo to escape from the French, who wanted to arrest him and his family because of his father’s struggle against them. Farid studied at the French school (Al-Kharnafsh), but he did not finish it. He later joined the Roman Catholic Patriarchate School, then entered the Institute of Music, and at the same time he began selling cloth and distributing advertisements in order to provide for himself and his family, after which he joined a band. Badia Masabni as an oud player, and there Farid attracted attention to him, and after that he started singing, and he attracted great attention, especially (Medhat Assem), who then introduced him to the radio, and his famous song (Yartni Bird) met with great success, and then he became famous as a composer and singer after that. In 1941, he made his artistic debut in cinema with the film (Intisar Al-Shabab), after which he made a number of prominent films, most of which he starred in, such as (The Honeymoon) in 1945, (Bulbul Effendi) in 1948, and in 1955 he embarked on the experience of writing through the film (My Love Story), which was also his production. In 1974, he suffered a heart attack and was transferred to Al-Hayek Hospital in Beirut, where he died at the age of 64.
