Guards of Silence is an Arabic drama series based on the novel by celebrated Syrian writer Ghada al-Samman, The Impossible Novel: A Damascene Mosaic. Set in Damascus during the 1940s, the series follows Zayn, a young woman with a passion for writing, who witnesses the killing of an innocent girl named Muazzaz — murdered on mere suspicion of improper behavior. This traumatic event awakens Zayn to the truth about her own mother's death, which was also a murder. As she pursues justice, she is met with a wall of silence and escalating threats, ultimately suffering a violent attack by her own cousins. A powerful drama about honor, suppression, and a woman's courage in the face of entrenched social silence.
