The Usurer is an Egyptian social drama that exposes the brutal mechanisms of class exploitation in rural Egypt. A feudal lord and his business manager lead lives of excess and moral bankruptcy, squandering fortunes on debauchery during their frequent trips to France. As the business manager turns to usury and the ruthless oppression of peasants to fund his ambitions, the resilient Zanouba — witnessing the injustice engulfing her village — decides to take matters into her own hands, entering a high-stakes game of cunning against the usurer to bring about his downfall.
