The Innocent and the Executioner is an Egyptian drama-thriller centered on Hamdi, a businessman who returns from abroad determined to avenge his brother Saeed, who was convicted of murder and theft and executed. Hamdi suspects that the three men who testified against Saeed — Abdel Hamid, Mustafa, and Badr — are guilty of false witness, pointing to their sudden and unexplained wealth as evidence. Exploiting the fact that none of them know who he is, Hamdi devises a series of elaborate schemes to exact revenge on each man individually. The film weaves together suspense and moral ambiguity, asking hard questions about justice, guilt, and the lengths to which grief can push a person.
