A Very Modern Family is an Egyptian social comedy series that follows Ahmed, freshly returned from Japan and brimming with enthusiasm for the Japanese work ethic. Determined to eliminate laziness and dependency in his household, he turns his reforming gaze on his wife — who delegates everything to their maid — his academically indifferent daughter, and his aimless son. The series wrings sharp, relatable comedy from Ahmed's uphill battle to import Eastern discipline into an Egyptian home that has its own very different ideas about how life should be lived.
