Safa El Gamil

An Egyptian actor, born in Cairo on February 7, 1907, and according to some sources in 1920 His real name is Safaa al-Din Hussein Zaki al-Faydi, but he was known as Safa al-Jamil, Safa Muhammad, or Safasf, as his colleagues called him behind the scenes, and to the audience he was known as Nofal. He began his artistic career in the mid-thirties, and through his gentleness and kind-heartedness, he was able to capture the love of his colleagues and the love of the audiences. He became the most important and famous extra in Egyptian cinema, and the audiences do not forget him, even his silent scenes, as his mere appearance on the screen makes them smile. Safa was suffering from a heaviness in his tongue that affected his speech, but his words were intelligible. The masses thought he was mentally disabled, but he was intelligent, contrary to his roles indicating this. Director Mohamed Karim discovered him and assigned him a small role in the movie “Tears of Love” in 1935 with musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab. Artist Naguib Al-Rihani also welcomed him and included him in his films and his theater group. The singer Asmahan loved him very much. He played the role of "Nawfal", the son of the teacher Samaha Al-Qahwaji (Abdel Fattah Al-Qasri). Among his films are: "Peace be upon you" 1937, "Something from Nothing" 1938, "Jawhara" 1943, "The Prisoner of the Eyes" 1949, "People have wronged me" 1950, "Khadra and Sinbad the Tribe" 1951, and "The World is Why" Laugh” 1953, “Wax Museum” 1956, and “Widow Wanted” 1965. Safa Gemayel died on June 27, 1966.
