National Day of Mourning in Mexico is a satirical Arabic comedy set in a dystopian world where love has been outlawed. Valentine's Day is banned, the colour red is forbidden, and anyone caught buying gifts faces arrest. At the centre of the story is Hassan, a television presenter who once wrote romantic poetry but now serves as a mouthpiece for the anti-love regime. When his fiancée falls into the hands of the stop-love police, he must confront the absurdity he has enabled and fight to win her back. The film uses sharp allegorical humour to critique media manipulation and authoritarian control over emotion.
