Taste of Cement, is a 2017 Lebanese movie, directed by Ziad Kalthoum. with a runtime of 85 minutes.
Taste of Cement is a visually striking Syrian documentary directed by Ziad Kalthoum, set in Beirut where Syrian construction workers build a skyscraper while their own homes back in Syria are simultaneously being destroyed by war. The Lebanese Civil War has ended, but the Syrian conflict rages on, and the men are trapped in a double exile — physically confined to the construction site after 7pm by a Lebanese government curfew imposed on refugees. Their only connection to the outside world is the hole through which they emerge each morning to begin another day of labor. Each night, they gather around a small television set to watch news from Syria, their faces carrying the weight of anxiety, homesickness, and the fragile hope for a different life. Taste of Cement is a profound meditation on displacement, labour, and the longing for home.
