The Waiting is a documentary film following Ekhlas Alhlwani, a Syrian refugee who fled the war with her three children and now lives in the Zaatari refugee camp in the Jordanian desert. Director Rizzi spent seven weeks observing her daily life alongside other women in the camp — a life stripped of prospects and certainty. The film captures Alhlwani's determined efforts to maintain a semblance of normalcy for her family despite the harsh conditions, conveying with quiet power the cruelty of war and the profound rootlessness of displacement. The film is the first installment in a trilogy examining emerging civil consciousness across Malaysia, Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, and Syria.
