Overview

Checks Without Balance is a 1989 Kuwaiti social comedy staged in Kuwait, written by actress Hayat Al-Fahad and directed by Mubarak Swaid. The play tackles a widespread social problem — the culture of writing bad checks, where individuals issue checks against accounts with insufficient funds, leading to a cascade of legal and financial troubles. Through sharp comedic writing, the play holds up a mirror to Kuwaiti society, examining financial irresponsibility, the pressures of debt, and the consequences of living beyond one's means. Hayat Al-Fahad's script blends humor with pointed social commentary, making it one of the notable theatrical productions of late-1980s Kuwait.
