Backstage is a Tunisian drama set against the backdrop of a contemporary dance tour through Morocco. Aida, a dancer with a Tunisian troupe, provokes a confrontation with Hedi — her life partner and stage partner — during a performance in a small Middle Atlas mountain town. The altercation ends with Aida injured onstage, forcing the two to embark on a tense night journey through the forest to reach a doctor in the next village. As they move through the darkness, long-suppressed emotions and unresolved tensions between them surface, turning a medical emergency into a deeply personal reckoning.
