The Scarecrows is a haunting Tunisian drama set in late 2013, following two young women, Zina and Djo, who return home after being abducted and raped while in Syria. Zina was separated from her newborn child, while Djo — discovering she is pregnant — retreats into a devastating silence, channeling her trauma only through writing. Lawyer Nadia and humanitarian doctor Dora guide them through a lengthy and painful recovery journey marked by family hostility and social media cruelty. The film weaves in the story of Driss, a persecuted young gay man, whose unexpected bond with Zina may help both of them break their silence and reclaim their identities.
