Hysteria is an Egyptian romantic drama film following Zain, a graduate of the Higher Institute of Music who struggles to build a life in the arts while supporting his family — his mother, brother Ramzi, and sister Houria — after the loss of their father fifteen years earlier. Zain's desperate attempts to earn a living as a street singer in the metro or with a struggling orchestra paint a vivid portrait of artistic hardship. When Fawzia, daughter of the wealthy Radwan Pasha, falls in love with Zain, her father refuses the match on account of his poverty. A socially rich romantic drama that places talent and ambition at the heart of the eternal tension between love and class in Egyptian society.
